Childminding Development Grant


A €1000 grant is available for people providing a home based childcare service. If you are childminding or are intending to open a childminding service in your own home, you can avail of the grant scheme. The childminding development grant is designated to purchase toys, educational materials and equipment or make some minor household adaptations to assist you in developing quality childminding service.

To be eligible to apply for the grant, you should


1. Completion of adequate training:

Quality Awareness Programand Children First: Child Protection and Welfare training




2. Completion of Notification and training:

  1. Voluntary Notify Dublin City Childcare Committeeand Complete Children First: Child Protection and Welfare training


  1. Statutory Notify Tusla (Child and Family Agency, Pre-school Service Inspectorate) and complete QAPand Children First: Child Protection and Welfare training.

Application Process

You may apply for a 90% grant up to €1,000 for small capital items. To get the maximum of €1,000 you need to spend €1,111 or more.

How the application process works:

  1. Get the Application Form from the DCCC or download it from the link above.
  2. Decide what items you would like to get for your childminding service. Think of the ages of children in your care and their developmental needs.
  3. Complete the form and submit it by post to the DCCC.
  4. DON’T BUY ANYTHING until you received a written approval from the DCCC!
  5. When you purchase items that have been approved, keep all the receipts.
  6. Send in the receipts to the DCCC (originals only). If you need a copy of the receipt, please let us know.
  7. Receive your grant cheque in the post.

Childminding Insurance

Many home insurance policies cover childminding for up to two additional children and can be extended to mind up to 6 children. Please check with your home insurance provider and inform them that you are providing a childminding service out of your home. Withholding of that information may lead to claim refusal on the grounds of non-disclosure.

If you decide to go with a separate childminding insurance scheme, Childminding Ireland offers a tailored insurance package that allows cover for up to 6 minded children. As of 1 March, 2013 Insured Registered Membership fee is €155 per year all inclusive.


Two simple steps to renew or apply:

  1. Complete the combined Registered Member and Insurance Application Form
  2. Return it to Childminding Ireland together with cheque or money order /draft payment, or phone 01 - 287 84 66 to make a credit or debit card payment.


The insurance is comprehensive and provides:

  1. Public Liability covering insurable accidents
  2. All Risks cover on equipment relating to Childminding, with low €125 excess
  3. Outings, including swimming with increased ratio of 1 adult to 5 Children
  4. Loss of Income if the Childminding service must close because of notified illness
  5. Employer Liability, to include helpers or substitutes
  6. Legal advice and counselling helpline.
